Our Agents Know All the Ins and Outs of Hillegom

Hillegom originated in the Middle Ages around a settlement near the Maartenskerk (St. Martin’s Church). The name likely comes from Helleghem, meaning “residence on high sand.” In the 17th and 18th centuries, the village prospered through agriculture and bulb cultivation. Wealthy Amsterdammers built country estates here, contributing to its prosperity. From the 19th century onward, Hillegom became a key village in the Flower Region (Bollenstreek), surrounded by the famous flower fields that still define the landscape today.
